Yangtze Cruise – Pt. 7: The Lesser Three Gorges

(The first attempt at this didn't get all the photos - now that we're stuck in a typhoon in Shanghai, I can add them.)

After cruising through the first gorge and having a special fish dinner that Vicky had ordered for our table, we boarded a tour boat for a tour of the Damin River which has three smaller gorges (hence the name).  Here the water was clear as it’s coming from a different area and the scenery just got more and more amazing.  At the end, we boarded small bamboo boats for a quick 5km trip through the micro gorge.  Along this trip we came across some wild monkeys.  They moved too fast for my shutter speed, but I was able to catch one sitting and pondering us.  Brandon tried his best to fall overboard… I was waiting with my camera to capture this key moment, but he didn’t.  Maybe next time.

On this segment, the guide told us she was one of those that were resettled.  She explained that she had a 60 square meter house before the project, but since then the government resettled her to a new 120 square meter apartment and noted that for many life is better now since there is more commerce and tourism.

By that point I was gorged out… I actually missed the second gorge on the Yangtze while I was in the room trying to decide which of the several hundred photos from today would make the blog.
