We promised the boys we'd let them sleep in this morning, so after breakfast Vicky and I went for a walk around the western part of West Lake. Our hotel complex (a series of villas) sits on a peninsula along the southern edge of the lake and a portion of the grounds looks across to the northeastern part where the city of Hangzhou lies. just to the west of us is the Su Causeway. This is a long land bridge across the entire lake with high arch bridges spaced at various intervals for the boats to pass. Today it was crowded - incredibly so - and you could hardly walk without bumping into someone.
After an hour or so, we found our way back to the hotel and picked up the boys (who had just woke up). Then we took a taxi to Zhi Wei Guan, a restaurant on the "garden fish" area. The restaurant includes a series of outbuildings where you can dine after walking to them on low wooden bridges. After lunch we walked through the "garden fish" area (which is appropriately named) and sought a boat ride.
